About Yoga
Yoga is a healing system of theory and practice. It is a combination
of breathing exercises (pranayama), physical postures (asanas) and
meditation (dhyana) that has been practiced for over 5,000 years.
Yoga originated in India, where it is mostly a spiritual practice.
In the West, yoga has evolved in to an exercise that relaxes
the nervous system and calms the mind, body and spirit. Yoga is
used to lower blood pressure, reduce stress and improve coordination,
flexibility, concentration, sleep and digestion.
Our mission is to propogate the authentic teachings and practices
of yoga for the physical, mental and spiritual uplifting of ourselves,
our community and all beings. We teach classical hatha yoga,
an ancient technique brought to the West by Swami Vishnu Devananda
in the 1950's.
Our classes are non-competitive and accessible enough for beginners
while more advanced students are encouraged to challenge themselves.
This positive, cooperative attitude on the part of the students
and teachers characterizes the yoga taught at Integrative Health.
We are gratified to have the opportunity to help students discover
this age-old knowledge. Whatever your motivation, we hope you enjoy
your practice as much as we enjoy ours.
Om Shanti.
