How Does Stiles Manual Therapy Work?
This manual treatment approach is gentle in its delivery and localized
to the specific joint to be treated resulting in an immediate change
in the body’s alignment by the brain (or central nervous system).
From the time you were born…even before…your
body has experienced physical trauma of varying degrees, emotional
stress, poor postural positions, poor body mechanics when performing
physical labor, etc…
When these messages are sent to the brain, the brain will always
try to “fix it,” keeping you pain free. However, if
the brain cannot correct the problem, it will compensate for the
restricted area by changing the mechanics or joint position in other
areas of the body.
These compensations will decompress the primary
site of restriction or injury in attempt to decrease or eliminate
pain. Over time your body will accumulate layers and layers of restriction
(tightness) like a large onion.
Once the brain runs out of compensatory strategies, it has no choice
but to allow you, the patient, to experience pain.
Through Stiles Manual Therapy, the body is assessed
to locate the “area of greatest restriction” and treated
via a wide variety of techniques in order to remove the problem
areas, allowing the brain to once again take over and create a state
of balance.
Consider this comparison of our body to a combination lock: Once
the body is restricted or locked down, it is necessary to deliver
the correct treatment in the correct order or sequence to “unlock”
it.
Each treatment you receive will unlock your body for the day allowing
more freedom in mobility and decreased pain.

About our Physical
Therapy Provider
Audra
R. Thompson, physical therapist and owner of Healing Hands Physical
Therapy, is excited to announce she is bringing her practice, as
well as, her manual therapy skills and expertise to Integrative
Health, Inc.
Audra is originally from Oklahoma and moved
to Crested Butte, CO in 2007 . Healing Hands Physical Therapy, PLLC
was founded in 2006 and is currently located in Gunnison, CO. Audra
has 13 years experience as a physical therapist, graduating from
the University of Oklahoma in 1998 with a specialty in Spinal Dysfunction.
She has worked in a variety of clinical
settings to include outpatient rehabilitation, treating a multitude
of diagnoses such as but not limited to: chronic pain of the spine
and extremities, chronic stress/fatigue related problems, myofascial
pain (fibromyalgia, etc…), craniosacral dysfunction to include
headaches, post surgical joint pain, and unexplained onset of pain
and/or physical limitation.
She has been trained over the past 7 years
by Dr. Edward Stiles, DO and Micha Sale, PT in manual therapy whose
treatment approach is based on osteopathic principles and focuses
on removing restriction and tightness from the body in order for
the nervous system to, in turn, restore optimal joint mechanics,
reduce joint compression, and return the person to pain free function.
In other words, the body is placed in a
position to heal itself! She has also received training in energy
medicine treatment, specifically the Tara Approach developed by
Dr. Stephanie Mines, Ph.d of Boulder, CO. Since the body is comprised
of the body, mind, and spirit, Audra integrates her training to
deliver a customized and sequenced treatment based on each patient’s
unique presentation of physical, emotional, and/or spiritual restrictions.
She is the only “Stiles trained”
therapist in the state of Colorado, and her passion is
to truly see the lives of her patients change through attunement
in bodywork. Her motto: “This is Your Time for Healing…”
