About Craniosacral Therapy

This gentle, hands-on technique involves the craniosacral system, a system of the body composed of membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surrounds the brain and spinal cord. Practitioners utilize CST to loosen and release restrictions or “blockages” in the body that can contribute to pain and dysfunction. Removing such blockages improves the functioning of the central nervous system and the body as a whole.

How can it help me?
CST is effective at treating a number of problems, including pain, headaches, central nervous system disorders, chronic fatigue syndrome, stress, tension and more. Proponents of CST also claim that it aids in improving mental clarity and emotional well-being.What is the treatment like? The craniosacral therapy practitioner works with the patient to assist the body's self-correcting mechanisms. Generally using about five grams of pressure, or about the weight of a nickel, the practitioner evaluates the body's craniosacral system.

This system plays a vital role of maintaining the environment in which the central nervous system functions. It consists of the membranes and fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord as well as the attached bones - including the skull, face and mouth, which make up the cranium, and the tailbone area, or sacrum. Since the brain and spinal cord are contained within the central nervous system, it is easy to see that the craniosacral system has powerful influence over a wide variety of bodily functions.

The craniosacral therapy practitioner essentially helps the body release restrictions - which it has been unable to overcome on its own - that inhibit the body's normal, self-correcting tendencies. Rather than deciding how these changes should be made, the therapist follows cues from the body on how to proceed.

About our CST Provider

elizabethElizabeth Browning Jones

Elizabeth Browning Jones is a practitioner and teacher of yoga, craniosacral, and massage therapies. In 1995 after she attended her first yoga class, she became inspired to bring health to not only her body but to body, mind and spirit. Her passion now is cranialsacral therapy and Yoga therapy and classes combined for a whole body passive and active participation for her clients.

Her passion for looking at the whole person in her treatments was fueled even deeper by a series of serious car accidents that sent her looking for help and a new way of dealing with stress, pain and trauma. This led her to discover craniosacral and structural yoga therapy. Elizabeth has practices in both New Mexico and Colorado. She is a teaching assistant for the Upledger Institute and is often helping them teach craniosacral techniques to interested practitioners.

She attended Cascade School of Massage and Bodywork therapies in Eugene, Oregon and Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon, for Exercise and Sport science. Other modalities she has studied in the US and in Europe are: Ayurveda, the Lauren Berry method, lymph drainage (Berry method), pre-natal massage, pediatric craniosacral, and visceral manipulation.
